Measure the shoulders, torso and skirt length
The tool uses bust, shoulder-to-shoulder width, underbust, waist, hip, back length, waist-to-hip length and skirt length. Measure shoulder width from one shoulder point across the back neck to the other, back length from the back high point shoulder to the back waist, and skirt length from the full-hip line to the hem.
Focus on shoulder width, the V neckline and underbust
After changing the inputs, review the shoulder-point position, the front proportion around the V neckline, the transition from underbust to waist, and the waist, hip and hem levels. Several vertical measurements work together to control balance, so the draft should not be judged from bust alone.
Stabilise the V neckline and test torso balance
A V-neck edge is sensitive to bias grain, stretch and construction order. Test the shoulders, underbust, waist, hip and skirt length in a toile, stabilising the neckline edge where appropriate, and confirm front-to-back balance before cutting the final fabric.
